Accommodations

Casa Sophia is an over-the-water house, located in a hurricane-free zone featuring two Queen bedrooms with private bathrooms. Light and airy,  the rooms have ceiling fans and sliding glass doors out to Casa Sophia’s dock and private dock. The lodging is located in the heart of the town of Bastimentos, aka Old Bank. Water taxis can be hailed right from our dock for easy access to and from Bocas Town or Red Frog Beach. Because our home is over the water, it’s not appropriate for families with kids under 12, unless they are thoroughly water safe.

Staying over the water is beautiful, and the view is spectacular. Most of our guests will be enchanted by the sound of water surrounding them, but if you are a light sleeper you may want to consider bringing ear plugs. The locals like to play music, but it usually quiets down just in time for you to enjoy a good night’s sleep. It’s not unusual for people to jump off the dock and enjoy a refreshing swim close to our deck and dock although it’s important to always be aware of water taxi boat traffic..

Pet(s) live on our property: Jax a people-loving medium-sized dog, and a friendly but aloof cat.

Breakfast

A light continental breakfast with fresh fruit (when available) will be served between
8 a.m.-10 a.m., or earlier upon request.

The kitchen is unavailable for guests to prepare meals, however, a small space will be made available in our refrigerator for guests to store items.

There is a market across the path from Casa Sophia to purchase food and toiletries.

Amenity limitations:
Cool showers (no hot water) are a welcome relief from the warm tropical weather. Clean filtered water is supplied via a rain catchment system and water conservation is deeply appreciated.

Sophia and Rene are excited to help you fully enjoy your stay.  If you are interested in surfing, surf lessons, snorkeling and zip lining, they can help schedule these activities and help you plan trips to many of  the famous beaches in the area including Red Frog, Palmar, Polo, Star and Bluff Beach. You may also  enjoy scheduling a short boat ride to Isla Solarte’s Blue Coconut Lounge or a day trip to Isla Zapatilla.
